Broken Bay Diocese

Diocesan President: Mrs Jacqueline Kemp

Diocesan Secretary: Mrs Ruth Robinson

HISTORY

In 1986, the Archdiocese of Sydney was divided into three, creating the Archdiocese of Sydney, the Diocese of Parramatta and the Diocese of Broken Bay. The Diocese of Broken Bay covering an area of 2,763 square kilometres is nominally divided into three separate geographic regions; the Peninsula has parishes from Manly to Avalon; the North Shore from Chatswood north to Arcadia and Berowra; and the Central Coast from Woy Woy to Toukley, Wyong and Warnervale.

At the time, twenty branches of the Catholic Women’s League came within the Diocese of Broken Bay and more branches were established. The oldest CWL Branch, Manly, was founded in 1937 and continued for 78 years.

The CWL Diocese of Broken Bay currently has both active and diocesan members. Members attend monthly meetings in their parishes to organise fund raising, social events and to be kept informed of social issues. Members can also attend the Executive/ Delegates monthly meeting held in the Diocesan Curia Offices in Pennant Hills.
Many charities benefit from the efforts of CWL members. In particular, CWL members are very proud of their longstanding commitment of many years to providing annual scholarships to students of St Lucy’s Primary School and St Edmund’s High School. Both schools specialise in a Catholic education for students with disabilities.

The CWL members on the Central Coast provide scholarships to students who would otherwise not be able to complete their education at a Catholic High School. The Catholic Women’s League Scholarship is awarded to students of St Peter’s, St Edward’s, St Joseph’s and Mary MacKillop Diocesan Central Coast High Schools.

Broken Bay ladies enjoy an active and rewarding time with the Catholic Women’s League, we welcome and encourage new members to join us and become part of our community.
